Good Family Time

Saturday, April 28, 2018

Today was another bright and sunny day. We enjoyed it with family. After much needed sleep last night, we started the morning with Randy, Max’s brother, coming over for a visit. It was nice to have some quiet time with him. We don’t have enough time with Randy and Debra. Then it was time to get busy and Randy went to town to get the necessary parts to repair the Aunt Helen’s lawn mower, we stopped by and visited with Debra for a little while and then went to Oneonta to the rehab facility to see Jean and Helen. We took more clothes for Jean and some of her precious keepsakes and pictures for her room. She seemed to really appreciate them. We visited with the two ladies for a while and then got them down to the dining hall for lunch. After lunch the four of us visited in Helen’s room and a little later Marsha came and visited with us too. Jean went to play bingo and later they both went to gospel singing in the dining room. The ladies didn’t enjoy the music as much today but by then Randy and Debra and Michelle joined us. We all sat outside and visited in the nice courtyard. Beautiful spring afternoon. Too soon Marsha had to leave for Chattanooga. Not sure when she will be able to return but hopefully not too long. After visiting with the ladies a little more, we all headed back to Pine Mountain. Randy and Debra took us to Jim ‘N Nicks in Trussville for dinner. It was so good. We love the prime rib sandwiches and of course their barbecue is wonderful. More time to visit. It was a wonderful meal and a really good day with family. It was so good to see Randy, Debra and Marsha again and we appreciate their help with the moving yesterday more than they will ever know. Stay safe everyone and don’t forget to be praying for services tomorrow.

Family Saves The Day

Thursday-Friday, April 26-27, 2018

Sorry about not posting last night but we were really tired and yesterday was not very interesting. We drove back from Tuscaloosa to Trussville and went to three banks working on Aunt Jean’s business, then to the assisted living and grocery store, stopped by the house to drop off the groceries and headed in to Oneonta and went to the court house to do the paperwork to sell Juno’s car, another bank for Jean’s business and some estate business, the rehab center, a haircut for Max and finally some lunch about 4:00 and back to rehab. How is that for a run on sentence, and a run on day. Oh, and it rained and was messy until about 4:00.

Today on the other hand was a gorgeous day. Cool this morning and quite warm this afternoon. However, it was just as busy. Today we moved all of Aunt Jean’s belongings from the assisted living. She doesn’t plan to return there. She needs to be able to transfer from wheelchair to bed and back to meet qualifications for assisted living and she is a long way from doing that. The therapists are still working with her but they really don’t expect her to meet that goal. The insurance company thinks she is no longer progressing and is stopping the therapy tomorrow. We are appealing that decision but we have already lost one appeal and are working on the second. They now have fourteen days to give us a decision. We are blessed because she likes the rehab/skilled nursing facility and wants to stay there long term. We are working to arrange that for her and in the mean time she can continue some therapy awaiting appeal.

The move today was a little overwhelming. We arrived at the assisted living at 9:00 and started packing. We didn’t realize there was so much stuff. It was a small space, two rooms and the bathroom but man at the stuff. Again, we were so blessed. Randy, Debra and Marsha came to help. We all three worked all day and then Max’s only cousin on his Dad’ side also arrived around lunch time. It was so good to see her and her arrival was a pick me up when we were in a slump. We finally had everything safe and secure in the storage building or in boxes for the rehab center and were on our way home by about 5:30. Finished in one day!! Thank you, Lord, for sending us all the help. Without our family we would have still been working on the move Monday. So we are again home tonight, very tired but, feel very good about what was accomplished today.

Expensive Day

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Today was another really nice day. Sunny and not too hot. Another day of a few minutes of the fire place this morning and just the fans this afternoon. It was a busy day too. We had meetings with the estate attorney, and two accountants for Mama Ruby. Can’t wait to get that bill.  NOT!!!  Hopefully we are now all on track for making more progress. At least we understand more of what we have to accomplish and our time line. So much work to do! Still looking to have an estate sale this summer. Since we didn’t do anything of much interest today we thought we would do a flash back to April 25, 2014. It was our first NOMADS drop-in project. Fun times. Hope you enjoy. (Click here to flash back with us.)

Cheryl going in the windowWe also flashed back to this date in 2016 and were reminded of a funny thing that happened on our NOMADS project at Sumatanga. Our friend Tony locked his keys in his motorhome and another dear friend, Cheryl, volunteered to go through a window and unlock it.

Another Tuscaloosa Tuesday

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

Today was another work day at Mama Ruby’s house. It was a cloudy day with scattered showers. We never had hard rain but was a very damp day.

We needed a break and Anne went to get a hair cut. Irises on 4-24We then had a late lunch of a great steak grilled by Max. We are also continuing to enjoy the irises that we brought back from Remlap. We will always think of Juno when we look at them since it was her favorite flower and her first name.

Today was a hard day – very emotional going through some of the things in the house. So when we just couldn’t take any more we took our second walk of the day and just Supper tonight“happened” to walk to Cookout for two milkshakes. After walking back home we decided to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie since they always have happy endings. It was time to take a break. Only ten days until we head back to Baton Rouge. Also we are happy to report that our team member, Jodi, was discharged from the hospital today and is back at the RV in Baton Rouge. Thank you, Lord, for taking care of Jodi.
