Start Of Week Two

Monday, January 14, 2019

Yesterday was cloudy and chilly. Today was cold. Of course it’s not cold like a lot of you are experiencing but it sure is cold compared to Saturday. And sadly the sun did not show itself.

so, now you have to label roy and daleYesterday was church, then lunch with the team again at Strickland’s and relaxing. We did note that its sad when Strickland’s has to start putting Roy Rogers and Dale Evans name on their posters. Guess it shows how old we are.

Today we worked really hard but it was one of those days when it just didn’t seem like we were making progress. Everything seemed to take longer than expected. Stel, Max and Anne returned to Gilberto’s home and completed bedroom two – completed the flooring and re-installed the baseboards. We helped Gilberto move everything from bedroom 3 to bedroom 2 and then cleaned the room, removed the baseboards, patched the concrete, pulled up the tack strips and started installing the vinyl planks. Jodi took the baseboards back to the church to clean up and paint because of the cold. Rita, Dave, John, Diane, Bev and Roger went back to Josefina’s to work on the siding. We all came back to our RVs for lunch today to warm up.

trying out a new recipeWhen we got back to the church this afternoon we decided to make a key lime cheese cake in the Instant Pot. It is currently in the refrigerator chilling so we will have dessert when we get home tomorrow. It’s a new recipe for us. We might have to sneak a taste before bedtime. Everyone stay warm.

Biking the Corpus Christi Bay Trail

Saturday, January 12, 2019

It was a great day
It was a great day

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day. Hard to believe it is January 12. We could get used to this. We will definitely have to consider another winter in south Texas. Of course next year if things go as planned we will be in south Florida, and we still have to do Arizona one winter. Anyway, we know that the forecast for next week is for cooler, more seasonal weather but we enjoyed today.

We had a leisurely start to the day and then mid-morning started our drive to Corpus Christi, about 78 miles. We chose today to ride the Corpus Christi Bay Trail. The northern end begins not far from the USS Lexington and runs south to the Texas A&M CC campus. It is about 16 miles round trip but we only did 14 miles today. The northern end is all concrete trail, off street, through parks. The more south you go the more you ride in bike lanes beside the traffic. The bike lanes for the most part are fairly wide but we just really don’t like riding in traffic. The closer to campus we rode the more traffic there was around us. It was a wonderful ride beside the bay. The scenery was beautiful. The weather perfect, 76 and sunny with beautiful blue skies and blue water. We enjoyed watching the ocean going tankers coming and going. We would definitely do this ride again. We enjoyed the view and enjoyed the people watching as well. You do have to watch out for all the people on the electric scooters. There are 100’s of them along the trail that people rent using an app on their phones, ride as long as they want, and then just leave beside the trail for others to ride. We considered trying them out just for fun but we were riding our bikes today. Maybe another time.

After our ride we headed back to Falfurrias stopping along the way for dinner, Lowe’s and Walmart. It was a great day for which we are very thankful!

Relaxing Day

Friday, January 11, 2019

Today was a mostly cloudy day with an occasional sprinkle of rain. Never any real rain but just when we were going to get the grill out to cook lunch, we had one of about three sprinkle episodes.

Last night we decided we would walk down to Whataburger for breakfast today. Side Door CafeOn our way this morning about a block before we got there, we passed Side Door Cafe.  It was finally open. Every other time we passed it was closed. We did discover that it is only open for breakfast on Friday and Saturday. They are open for lunch most days and dinner some evenings. And we think, like most of the local restaurants in Falfurrias, they open when they don’t have something else they need to do. Culturally, things seem to be pretty laid back in this area. Anyway, since we had read a couple of good reviews on the tiny Side Door Cafe, we decided we would give it at try. So glad we did. We each had the breakfast taco which was scrambled eggs with chorizo, cheese, onions, and peppers on a flour tortilla. We ordered 2 pancakes as well but they didn’t have pancakes today. After eating our taco we were so glad they didn’t have pancakes. It was a large taco and we did not need anything else. We are glad we decided to support one of the local businesses and will probably try them for lunch or dinner while we are here.

The rest of the day was a little of this and a little of that. We did laundry, and cleaned house, got some good walking time, and some good reading time. We grilled some hot dogs and hamburgers. It was a relaxing day.

Grilling lunch

End Of Week One

Thursday, January 10, 2019

Today was another day about like yesterday. Cloudy in the morning with bright sunshine in the afternoon. The high was 72 and with the wind it was still quite cool. It was another beautiful day.

Today is NOMADS Friday, the last work day for this week. We all worked really hard to get things done today and then leave the homes secured for the weekend.

Max, Anne, Stel and Jodi went back to Gilberto’s and began working on Bedroom 2. We got most of the flooring down in bedroom two. It is looking good. Max finished the exterior trim on the new back door. It looks really nice. Jodi worked on the baseboards on Bedroom 2.

Back out at Josefina’s, Rita Diane and Bev started painting the final coat of paint – peacock blue. The guys continued to handle the siding and started installing the siding late this afternoon. Before installing the siding they removed the old siding and some old insulation and place some R-13 insulation into the walls. Then they install the new siding. It was a good day of good work.

Tonight some of us went to eat at the Star of Texas restaurant in downtown Falfurrias. They primarily serve Tex-Mex and steaks. We had Tex-Mex. It was good. Not as good as Munoz at home but still good. The company was of course a blast. Lots of laughter. Now, what do we want to do this weekend?
