Today was a very cloudy and we had several showers pass over. Temperatures are now cooler. Nice!
The four of us are continuing to work very hard to get the drywall installed for MMDC and we are making good progress. It would be nice to install the final piece tomorrow. May not happen but it would be nice. Check back tomorrow and see.
There are lots of windows and doors to cut out
Anne and Ray are making good progress installing the sound proofing on the walls of the director’s office.
Unlike most NOMADS work weeks this time we only had a two day weekend. We spent most of it cooking our meals for the next week, working on NOMADS business and pulling maintenance on FRED. Like the title says – busy, boring weekend. But it was great to see our best friends on our church’s YouTube stream today. Sure made us miss them.
Grilling pork chops. We ate two as soon as they were done and saved two for the work week.
Max’s mother’s grits-and-sausage casserole recipe. One of our favorites for breakfast or dinner. (Gotta learn to be quicker with the camera.)
Our sister-in-law, Debra’s, chicken pie. Still slow with the camera.
We had started detecting a faint sulfur smell in the hot water and that usually means a mineral buildup in the tank. We turned it off, remove the old anode rod and drained and flushed the tank with our handy dandy water heater flush gadget. We checked the anode rod to see if it needed replacing …
… yep, it was passed time to replace the anode rod.
We also removed and checked the electric element. It still worked but was caked in minerals so we replaced it, too.
On Saturday we did take time to check out a different produce stand a few miles east of us.
We had storms around us this weekend but not a drop of rain here.
Since rain is forecast for the next few days we decided to go ahead and dump and flush our holding tanks today. We warned you that it was a boring weekend.
Today ended another week in which we were blessed to be serving God by volunteering at Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Illinois. It was a busy and productive day hanging drywall in the new office addition. With the other NOMADS volunteers here, Gary and Ray, we completed hanging the ceiling (except for one small section that we will fill with scrap from somewhere else) and started hanging the walls. We are really enjoying working with our new friends. Unfortunately Anne didn’t get to work on the job site today. She had to spend the day getting ready for the upcoming NOMADS board meeting.
Once we got into a rhythm the ceiling went up pretty quickly
After completing yesterday’s blog entry, another NOMAD arrived to help with the MMDC addition. We were relieved when Ray arrived about 9:00 last night. Max helped him get his trailer parked by providing some additional lighting.
We had fog and heavy dew this morning and cooler temperatures. Like most mornings, we walked before work to get some good exercise before it was so hot. The dew changed our work plans a bit. The foam that goes under the roof ridge arrived yesterday afternoon and we had planned to complete the roofing project in the cool of the morning. However, the roof was too wet and slick! That’s okay because we are flexible. We completed the installation of the vapor barrier in the ceiling. By then the sun had dried the roof and we were then able to complete the roofing shortly before lunch. We spent all afternoon installing drywall. We completed one of the offices and started on the second. It was a very productive day and we should all sleep well tonight.
