Another Week of Blessings

Friday, September 04, 2020

Today ended another week in which we were blessed to be serving God by volunteering at Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Illinois. It was a busy and productive day hanging drywall in the new office addition. With the other NOMADS volunteers here, Gary and Ray, we completed hanging the ceiling (except for one small section that we will fill with scrap from somewhere else) and started hanging the walls. We are really enjoying working with our new friends.  Unfortunately Anne didn’t get to work on the job site today. She had to spend the day getting ready for the upcoming NOMADS board meeting.

Roofing, Vapor Barrier and (finally) Drywall

Thursday, September 3, 2020

After completing yesterday’s blog entry, another NOMAD arrived to help with the MMDC addition. We were relieved when Ray arrived about 9:00 last night. Max helped him get his trailer parked by providing some additional lighting.

We had fog and heavy dew this morning and cooler temperatures. Like most mornings, we walked before work to get some good exercise before it was so hot. The dew changed our work plans a bit. The foam that goes under the roof ridge arrived yesterday afternoon and we had planned to complete the roofing project in the cool of the morning. However, the roof was too wet and slick! That’s okay because we are flexible. We completed the installation of the vapor barrier in the ceiling. By then the sun had dried the roof and we were then able to complete the roofing shortly before lunch. We spent all afternoon installing drywall. We completed one of the offices and started on the second. It was a very productive day and we should all sleep well tonight.

Cabling and Insulation

Wednesday, September 2, 2020

Yesterday started with rain. It didn’t bother us because we planned to be working inside anyway. We continued to clean out the addition, moving items no longer needed back to the warehouse so we will have more room to work. Then, we continued the installation of the insulation. Gary, another NOMAD arrived about noon and after getting set up joined us for the afternoon. He worked on opening up the cased opening between the existing building and the addition. It was a good, productive day. Today began very overcast but ended warm and sunny. We continued with insulation and the doorway, completing the doorway and all the insulation in the exterior walls and put fiberglass insulation in the eaves in preparation for the blown-in ceiling insulation later. This afternoon we ran the cable for the computers through the conduit up to the attic of the existing building and then back down into the computer room. Then we worked on installing vapor barrier. We have about half of that job completed. It was another productive day.

Max and Anne had to go to Pawnee to the lumber store today to pick up some supplies. This brought back good memories for Anne. The store looked like it was from the 1950s. It had some beautiful golden oak desks and cabinets and reminded Anne of when she was a little girl and her Dad would take her to job sites and then go by the lumber company and pick up some supplies. What was the best thing about today? Probably God’s blessing of another beautiful sunset. Such a peaceful way to end the day. Hope your day was peaceful too.

Back to Work

Monday, August 31, 2020

Yesterday was a picture perfect Sunday – lower temperatures and humidity. We were out getting a good walk before 8:30 church. Worship service from Lester Memorial UMC in Oneonta, Alabama yesterday was wonderful. Pastor Harvey really puts the word out there for everyone. We are so blessed to have him as our pastor. All our services, contemporary, traditional and the Wednesday devotion are all available for streaming on Facebook and YouTube.  Max cooked us a wonderful breakfast of blueberry waffle french toast and then we jointly cooked the one pot teriyaki chicken and rice for our main meal of the day. We decided it’s a keeper recipe but we will probably convert it to an instant pot meal. No need for cooking the rest of the week.

Today we had a very cloudy morning and it was great for installing the remainder of the metal on the roof. The materials arrived Friday and we had an extra volunteer today (Bill) and by three o’clock the roof was installed. Now we are waiting on the foam strips that go under the ridge cap and once that arrives we will install the ridge cap and the roof will be complete. It was a very productive day. Thank you Bill so much for you added help. Tonight we are tired.
