Quiet Day, Noisy Night

Happy Independence Day!

We celebrated the day by cooking and eating. After our 3 mile walk this morning we enjoyed a repeat of our cinnamon raisin brioche french toast, then for a late lunch we grilled some barbecue pork chops. Anne also worked on taxes a while. Nice quiet day together.

Then tonight there were fireworks all around us. Through the trees we could barely see the big show down by the river, but several neighbors provided closer shows.fireworks

Highlights??

Tuesday, July 3, 2018

So, we can explain why there was no blog yesterday. When Google Photos makes a highlight video of your day and it’s all pictures of a rental property that was left in bad shape by the tenant that just moved out, you know your day was really not very blog-worthy. Really the highlight of our day yesterday was the beautiful sunrise. And then yesterday afternoon we had a really good rain.  Google Photos just didn’t get it right.  It was a work day but it was a good day.Monday Sunrise

Today was another hot and sunny day. It was already too hot when we finished our morning walk. We decided that it was just too hot to walk again tonight, so we went back to the gym. We actually probably needed a different workout anyway. We have already done 15 miles this week so this afternoon we were back on the machines at the gym, stationary bikes, treadmills, stair climber and a walk on the track for a cool down. Anne also was able to get the last of the accounting to the accounting firm. Now when they have completed their work we can complete our own tax return. We are making progress. Tonight was a quiet night at home watching a movie. It was another good day.

Another Quiet(ish) Sunday

FLUMC Traditional ServiceWe were up early this morning and did our three mile walk before church. We went back to Forest Lake UMC but today visited the early (9:00 am) traditional service. Just as we walked in the door we met an old friend we hadn’t seen since we retired. Anne has known him since high school and Max knows him through EMA. Such a treat and we are going to try to have dinner together one night this week. We also got to visit with Melody who did Mama Ruby’s service for us. Melody is an associate at Forest Lake and it was such a treat to spend a little time with her. It’s also nice to be able to just walk to church. If we lived in Tuscaloosa, we would certainly consider Forest Lake for our home church. Don’t anyone jump to any conclusions, we are not moving to Tuscaloosa, but it is nice to have a church where we feel at home to attend while we are here.

After church we tried something new for brunch. We made french toast using a cinnamon raisin brioche. It was wonderful if we do say so ourselves and we will definitely be making it again. After brunch, we did a little accounting work, showed the house, watched some TV and rested. Then we lucked out and finally got a nice rain from one of the late afternoon scattered thunderstorms. The temperature dropped and when it quit raining we got our afternoon 3 miles in before it got too hot again. It was a nice quiet day. Hope yours was too.

Silver Sneakers

Saturday, June 30, 2018

Last day of June. 2018 is half over. Something to think about.

Today we were up early to another hot day. We had some business to take care of first thing then when we got back to Fred we made some BLTE’s – bacon, lettuce, tomato and egg. Loving our fresh tomatoes. We finally had to give up and water the grass today too. Mama Ruby’s zoysia grass is not maintenance free like the grass at our house. From the forecast we will be watering for the foreseeable future. We are having scattered afternoon thunderstorms but they are very scattered. We got nothing but 101 heat index today.

There was more accounting to be done today. A lot of progress was actually made today but there is just so much to do. We extended all the tax returns this year and now its time to get everything finished and caught up. After working hard all afternoon, we looked at the temperature and decided we would do something new, for us. We are Silver Sneakers members through our health insurance and we decided to visit a local gym to workout in the air conditioning. With Silver Sneakers we can find gyms all across the country, wherever we travel, give them our membership card to scan and work out for free. Here in Tuscaloosa the gym we choose (from lots of choices) allows us to use everything except classes. So the pool and lap pool as well as weight room, gym, indoor track, and all the equipment is ours to use. Some of the gyms also allow us to participate in the various classes too. It’s neat because we can go to one gym today and try a different one tomorrow, or one in the morning and a different one on the afternoon. We rode stationary bikes, walked on the treadmills, and tried out the ellipticals too. Hope we aren’t sore in the morning. Anyway its was a nice change of pace and something we will probably do again. Especially if it stays this hot. That’s it for our day. Hope yours was good.
