Getting Ready For Week Two

Sunday, October 28, 2018

Today the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. Quite cool and nice. The high was in the low 60’s.

We of course went to church this morning. We took our new team members back to Chestnut Street UMC, our sponsoring agency. Again, worship was good, the congregation welcoming. The pastor talked to us a while after the service. He is such a nice person. It was a treat to visit with him again. The team decided to skip eating out and head on back to the campground to await the arrival of the rest of the team. Susan and Mike were first in, sometime after three and then Bill and Cheryl arrived about 5:45.

We delayed team meeting a bit but then had everyone visit with us in FRED. It was a little cramped with 9 people but we managed just fine. A few snacks and some time to get to know one another. Nice. We reviewed the opening meeting check list with everyone and will review the work to be done this week in the morning after devotion. It was a good day.

Since we didn’t take any pictures here today, we included a few pictures of the last day Constructors for Christ worked at New Heights Church. Click here to go back a few weeks in the blog to see what it looked like when we arrived. (Thanks, Linda, for the pictures)

Coming And Going

Saturday, October 27, 2018

It didn’t rain any today. It looked like it was going to rain several times but never did. Finally late this afternoon we saw the sun for a few moments. It was cold all day. However, tomorrow and the next few days should be rather nice.

Team members leaving

All of our last week team members pulled out this morning before lunch. After saying goodbyes to everyone Anne made her first call to interview potential new NOMADS members. This is one of her duties as a member of the Board. She calls people who live in the southeast jurisdiction when they apply for membership to give them more information and answer questions. Then we headed to the grocery store for a few items. We headed back home and had some leftovers from Thursday night’s dinner for lunch. Shortly after that Carol and Dave arrived. So thankful they arrived safely. After they got set up, we (Dave, Carol, Reid and the two of us) decided to go to Cookout for milkshakes. This Cookout was different. It is only a drive-thru. We had planned to go in, sit down and visit while enjoying our shakes. Oh, well. We bought our shakes and came back to the campground and visited in FRED. We had a good afternoon. And yes, the shakes were just as good as the ones in Tuscaloosa. Hope everybody is enjoying their weekend.

Rainy Day

Friday, October 26, 2018

Our view most of the dayThis time the weather forecasters were correct. They said that today would be a wet day and it has been wet all day. We have had a few minutes when it wasn’t raining but most of the time it has been raining since about 3:00 am.

It was a good day to stay at home. It was such a good day to stay at home that we stayed here all day. Also every member of the team that were scheduled to leave today decided they really didn’t have to be anywhere else and decided to spend one more night in Lumberton. Dinner with Ann and JeffSince we were all still here we all went out to dinner again tonight except this time Ann and Jeff (our agency contacts) got to go with us. We all had a great time at Texas Roadhouse and really good food too. It was nice to have another evening with the team when were were all a little more rested than last night.

We also had one of our new team members arrive just before we left for dinner. Reid arrive in the midst of a downpour. He had to have a miserable drive from Hayesville today. Max helped him get backed in before we left for dinner. We will have one more couple arrived tomorrow and then two more Sunday.

Otherwise, we spent the day doing laundry and lots of paperwork. From the rain on the roof it sounds like it will be good sleeping weather again tonight but tomorrow is suppose to be a nice day. Hope you have a good weekend. Pray for safe travels for all our traveling NOMADS please.

Lumberton Team Picture 2018 Week 3
Lumberton Team Picture 2018 Week 3: Sharon, Gary, Ginger, Ogie, Larry, Bill, Anne, Max

Today started out cold and then didn’t warm up very much. We pretty much had on at least three layers all day, rather than down to a short sleeve T-shirt. We had a little sun today but most of the day it was overcast.

We have had great devotions this week. Today Ginger had us thinking about asking of God and then actually listening. Often we ask God for direction and then are so busy we don’t listen for the answer. She included a wonderful story of her childhood when she road a bike down a hill with a blindfold covering her eyes. BTW, it didn’t end well.

We all went back to work where we left off yesterday. We went over to Sheryl’s house to go over the work order and what had been done this week so we would no where to start Monday and then headed back to Jackie’s house. Today Sharon applied a couple coats of paint to the doors in the back bedroom. She also filled nail holes on trim and painted crown mold. Gary and Max worked on installing doors most of the day and by the end of the day all but one was installed. That last closet door will not be installed until after the water heater is installed in that closet. The doors are taking longer than usual because we are working in a manufactured home and the rough opening are not standard size. So each door and its casing has to be shortened and some of the rough openings have to be widened. Anne worked on some more drywall, filling nail holes and painting Kilz on trim. We all had a good day and are making progress. Larry, Ginger, Bill and Ogie continued work at Sheryl’s house. They completed the bathroom trim, got all the under-layment installed in the kitchen, and re-routed some plumbing. They have done a great job on that house.

All of these organizations were working today at Sheryl’s house.

We all went to dinner tonight at Zeno’s, an Italian restaurant. Max ordered lasagna and Anne had parmesan chicken, both of which were very good. Hoping for a quiet day at home tomorrow, listening to the rain on the roof.
