Rerun Tuesday

Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Today was a record high in Baton Rouge for May 15 – 96 degrees. We knew it was hotter today but didn’t know it was a record until tonight. It was sunny with scattered clouds. There were some scattered thunderstorms late afternoon but none at Francis Asbury.

Today at Richard’s was about like yesterday. We were all very busy and didn’t take many pictures. Max, Anne, Stel and Lisa on laminate flooring. Max and Anne also repaired the rotten subfloor in the bathroom. Carol, Mark, Susan and Paul painted bedroom 2 and the kitchen and trim. Most of the painting is now complete. Of course there is still touch up to be done and some areas may need another coat. Dave, Carol and Mark installed the underlayment in bedroom two and the closet and bath so Stel and Lisa could start the laminate on that side. Mark and Dave also worked on electrical.

We all did some clean up and trying to get the main room cleaned out a bit. We have got to get it empty in order to put the flooring down which we would like to do before Thursday afternoon. But, we also need to get some doors and trim installed. We have made lots of progress this week but still a long way to go. We probably won’t have everything done by Thursday but it will be very close to move in ready – we hope.

This evening we again went to Forest park and walked a couple of miles.

Beginning of the Last Week

Monday, May 14, 2018

It was another hot and sunny day today, with no rain in Baton Rouge. We did have some thunder late this afternoon but no rain. High was 93 in Baker. We are so blessed to have the window air conditioners at Richard’s house.

Dave brought our devotion this morning reminding us it’s not what talent we possess but what we do with it that matters. We often consider ourselves unqualified but Moses also considered himself poorly equipped, Exodus 4:10. If we yield our gifts, great or small, to God we can become an important part of His work on earth. Always remember that God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.

Messages on the floorWhen we first arrived at Richards house this morning, we all wrote some scripture and messages on the underlayment, before we started installing the flooring. Then we moved all the insulation that will be installed under the house and wrapped it in a tarp under the house so that the hot water heater can be installed in the kitchen closet/pantry.

Stel, Lisa, Max and Anne worked on the laminate starting in bedroom one. The bedroom flooring is now complete, the closet is almost complete and the bathroom is started. However, we hit a snag there when we removed the toilet. The floor has been wet and needs some repair due to rot of the subfloor. We will start on that repair first thing tomorrow, and then return to the installation of the flooring. Dave did a lot of the sawing for us today.

Carol, Paul, Susan, and Mark all worked on painting in bedroom two and closet and bath as well as the kitchen. They made a lot of progress. The west wing is not yet ready for flooring but it is moving forward. Maybe by the end of the day tomorrow. Carol also painted the window trim. Hopefully the plumber will be there soon to get bathroom 2 plumbed. He also still needs to install the water heater. A lot was accomplished today and there we no injuries. It was a good day.

Last Sunday at Francis Asbury (Until 2019)

Sunday, May 14, 2018

Today was another day like most of the others this week. Sunny and hot. No rain today. It was also our last Sunday at Francis Asbury UMC. We have really enjoyed this small congregation. They have made us feel welcome and appreciated.Mothers Day Flowers There were many sweet goodbyes and thank you’s from the congregation today. They also gave us flowers today since it was Mother’s Day. If things go as planned we will join them again in February of 2019. Until then we will continue to pray for God’s blessings on this congregation and community.

After worship we had a light lunch because the team got together for supper. We grilled some chicken and had our fresh veggies we purchased at the market yesterday. Our new team members arrived late this afternoon as well so we had our introductions over dinner. We also celebrated Lisa’s birthday a day early, with some cup cakes and ice cream (which we made and was more the consistency of a milk shake. Oops.) We have so enjoyed getting to know Lisa. Happy Birthday, Lisa, and many more!!

By the time we got everything cleaned and put away it was too late to go back to the park to walk so we just did a few rounds of the parking lot. That was it for our day. It was a hard one for us.

Market Day

Saturday, May 12, 2018

Today started as another sunny and warm day but then some clouds rolled in and by late afternoon we had a couple of thunderstorms come through. They didn’t last but a few minutes but there was some pretty vivid lightening.

Farmers Market signThen entire team decided to go to the farmers market in downtown Baton Rouge this morning. Lisa was familiar with one of the vendors that were supposed to have really good cinnamon rolls so we all agreed to head out at 8:00 to have breakfast at the market. A large block was closed off downtown for the market for the day vendors and one side of the street had inside market with permanent vendors. There were lots of people and lots of goodies to sample and purchase. The local strawberries are in season and are wonderful. Unfortunately, the cinnamon roll vendor was a no show today. We asked at the information booth and they pointed to the place they were suppose to be and it as a big empty booth. We were so disappointed. Oh well, we went inside and all found something good for breakfast. We had a breakfast sandwich with hash browns. Quite good. Then is was back to the shopping. We bought some cheese, smoked sausage, fresh green beans, new potatoes and strawberries. It is all so good. Love fresh from the farm foods.

We made a few stops on the way back to the church, then it was time for a nap. Didn’t realize how tired we really were because we both got good naps. We relaxed and watched some TV this afternoon and then after the storms blew over decided to go back to the grocery store to get some things for tomorrow. On the way we remembered the park that Dave and Carol and Lisa and Mark had found at the end of Millerville Road. We decided to go check out the park. It’s a nice large park with a dog park, playgrounds, ball fields, a pond for fishing, picnic tables and park benches along with walking trails. We decided to walk a couple of miles while we were there. It was another nice day.

Tomorrow we will get to worship at Francis Asbury again, the last time until next February. Hope you all are praying for your pastor as they prepare for tomorrow. Stay safe.
